PFA chief Taylor says Man City could rip up Tevez contract

PFA chief Gordon Taylor says Manchester City could terminate Carlos Tevez's contract.

Tevez appeared to refuse to come on as a substitute as Manchester City were defeated 2-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last month at the Allianz Arena.

Taylor told talkSPORT: "Carlos Tevez gets paid to play and he's paid to obey the instructions of the manager, so long as they're reasonable and from that point of view, if he fails to do that then there is a price to pay.

"If he's refused to play and refused to go onto the pitch that's the most serious [issue], if he's refused to continue warming up that's less serious but that's still a disciplinary matter and that's got to be dealt with properly and proportionately.

"The worst case scenario with any breach of discipline, if it's considered gross misconduct, could be termination. You can terminate a player's contract if the evidence justifies that and [Man City] could seek compensation from the player, which is what Chelsea did with Adrian Mutu.

"Or you could not want compensation but, of course, no matter if you're the richest club in the world, if you've laid out that much money you would then have to say, 'well we've sacked him but we also want compensation', and then you're keeping a player out of employment.

"But that is an extreme situation and that is if the evidence justifies that he definitely said I'm not playing."
