PFA announce their A-League Team of the Season
The Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) today announced their A-League Team of the Season for 2009/10.
PFA chief executive Brendan Schwab released the team at Olympic Park in Melbourne after all players in the league voted for their best 4-3-3 formation along with five substitutes for their performances throughout the season.
This week’s Grand Finalists Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC had a total of seven players out of the team of sixteen with Sky Blues boss Vitezslav Lavicka named as coach.
A-League Goalkeeper of the Year Eugene Galekovic from Adelaide United was handed the gloves whilst Victory skipper Kevin Muscat was named as captain.
Gold Coast United duo Jason Culina and Shane Smeltz both made the cut as did departing Newcastle Jets captain Matt Thompson who is off to incoming club Melbourne Heart next season.
The A-League’s best player for season 2009/10, Johnny Warren Medalist Carlos Hernandez was deployed in midfield whilst Wellington Phoenix import Paul Ifill and Brisbane Roar youngster Tommy Oar were both included on the bench along with Jets defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Sky Blues veteran Steve Corica.

What a joke, Topor-Stanley in the squad of the year. How could Andy TODD not be infront of Topor? Puzzling with the gk from the bottom team also.
Can someone please explain how the gk from the bottom team managed to get into the team of the year???
