One of the A-League's all-time leading scorers, Sasho Petrovski, will make his final appearance for the Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Thursday night.

The prolific striker has been told by the club that they will not be offering him a new contract for next season, making this week's clash with Perth Glory, and Sunday's short trip to the Central Coast his final two matches in the gold of Newcastle.

The 35-year old, who has scored the sixth most goals in A-League history, made it quite clear to tribalfootball.com that he is not retiring from the game and is indeed looking to continue his extensive playing career into next season.

Fresh from scoring a vital equaliser against Sydney FC yesterday, Petrovski spoke of his situation, setting the record straight that he has no plans to retire from the game.

"On Thursday I will be playing my last home game for the Jets," the former Mariners and Sky Blues striker said.

"I'm not retiring contrary to rumors going around. I will decide when it's time to hang up the boots, it isn't anybody else's decision and I'm tired of hearing what I'm supposedly doing in the media when I haven't made a decision on my future.

"I'm fit and ready to keep banging in the goals! I decide my destiny!"

Petrovski has been consistently overlooked by Jets coach Branko Culina this season, giving him just 14 substitute appearances in which his predatory finishing skills have netted him four goals - one behind the leading goalscorer for the season Marko Jesic, who in contrast has appeared 25 times all of which have been starts.

Even in the last six matches, in which the Jets have scored a measly three goals, Petrovski has been given a total of 73 minutes (in three of those games) as Culina has opted to go with other forwards.

He has been around long enough to understand that moving on and changing clubs is part of football but he has been disheartened by the way the Jets management have done things.

"I'm disappointed with the way the club has handled talks," he added. "I understand it's the coach's decision, but as a friend and a family man, they should have considered my personal situation and my family.

"Sometimes you have to find a balance between business and personal and they should have come to me earlier and laid the cards on the table and I should have not heard via other sources that I was not going to be offered a contract."

Petrovski has spent just over two years in Newcastle and has grown to love the club so he will leave with fond memories and hopes he can produce a goalscoring exit before joining a rival club who are looking for a striker of his pedigree.

"I wish them (the Jets) all the success and have made some very good friends for life here," he said further.

"Thanks to my supporters in Newcastle. I've enjoyed my time here and I'm looking to finish with a bang!"
