Stiliyan Petrov has hailed the arrival at Aston Villa of former West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.
"He's the type of player who has a great heart, superb ability and he never gives up, so to have someone in our team like that is great.
"It's great to have competition for places - it will lift our performances as well. Having competition like that means everyone has to work really hard in every session because if you want to keep your place in the team.
"So Europe has to be the aim. We've got the players who are capable of playing in Europe like a lot of other teams as well and we'll push as hard as we can."
