Martin Petrov says a knee strain has held him back at Bolton Wanderers.
Petrov is now hoping to resurrect his career, which dipped at Manchester City last season.
"I don't think I have played very well for Bolton yet because of the knee injury I had at City last season," said Petrov.
"It is difficult at 31 to come back after an injury and play at your best. But I will give everything. I just want to tell Bolton fans I am not yet the real Martin Petrov - but I will be."
He also said: "Everyone is happy, it's a good place to work, and the players get on with each other.
"Owen Coyle is just so motivated and positive every single day and it is easy to get caught up in that mood.
"The situation here is very different to how it was in Manchester."
