Petke out to change NYRB culture

New York Red Bull head coach Mike Petke says he is determined to change the culture of the club.

The Red Bulls have too often been MLS’ glamour team who always seem to come up short but in 2013, Petke is looking to change the whole outlook of his playing group.

“To be successful, you need that blend of super talent and hard-working guys who are talented – not taking talent away from them – but know the league and are willing to do the dirty work,” said Petke.

“I think that’s very important in this league.

“I know what success is to me. First and foremost is changing the culture, changing the identity, putting this club in the right direction – on a path we can stick with, whether I’m here or not. If it’s a good enough gameplan, the path is gonna be laid.”

New York kick-off the 2013 MLS campaign with an away trip to Portland Timbers on Sunday night.
