New York Red Bulls coach Mike Petke says there was no chance of competing for new Toronto FC signing Michael Bradley.

The New York native moves to TFC from AS Roma for a fee mooted to be $8 million, with his salary worth $6.5 million.

"Whichever fans are voicing displeasure about not getting Michael Bradley, I'll ask them if they have the $50 million to borrow to get him, because I certainly don't have that,'' Petke said.

"We were never in the mix."
