New York Red Bull head coach Mike Petke is determined to smooth out his sides bumps following their most pre-season loss.
The Red Bulls were beaten 3-1 by New England Revolution in the Desert Diamond Cup on Saturday night and Petke was disappointed by the manner in which his players conceded goals and failed to do the simple things properly.
"I just think some people need to step up, need to stand up, claim things for their own, do things the right away and learn," he said.
"Learn little things, things we learn in practice. I'm not talking about reinventing the wheel. Little things here and there. Maybe that's too much to ask.
"They didn't create three goals. We gave them three goals after a first half that we probably could have scored five or six. That's what they call pre-season we've got to sort this stuff out somehow."
The Red Bulls kick off the 2013 MLS season with a trip to Portland Timbers on March 3.
