Petke accepts New York Red Bulls job

Retired New York Red Bulls defender Mike Petke has accepted a individual development coaching role with the club it has been reported.

The 34-year old retired from the game at the end of the 2010 MLS season after 14 seasons with the Metrostars (original name of New York), DC United, Colorado Rapids and the Red Bulls and will now stay in the game with the club he loves.

"This is where I started and ended my career and there's no place I'd rather be," Petke told The Record. "I will always consider this club as my home and I'm thrilled to be able to contribute my ideas here."

Petke made around 170 league appearances for the Metrostars/Red Bulls in two stints at the club and has made over 300 total MLS appearances.
