Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson admits he tried to sign Arsenal striker Jay Simpson last year.

Simpson struck for West Brom in last night's FA Cup victory as Ferguson lamented: "He is a lad I know well and I watched him for Arsenal a couple of times but he went to Millwall last season.

"He's a quality player and I thought his first goal showed that. I thought he was outstanding for them."
