Perth skipper Coyne backs Verbeek honesty

Perth Glory captain Jamie Coyne believes Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek should remain honest in his appraisal of locally-based players.

Verbeek has made no secret of the fact that he does not rate the A-League highly but Coyne says his criticism of the local players will only help improve them.

"No one likes criticism, but I think it's honest criticism," he told perthnow.

"I think he's trying to be as honest as possible, which is a very Dutch way - they don't beat around the bush.

"I still think he believes that the players are good enough to do the job, otherwise I don't think he'd pick any of them for any competition.

"What he wants is for people to realise that there's some improvement still to go in certain areas."
