Perth's Mitchell happy plan worked out

Perth Glory boss Dave Mitchell was delighted his plan against Sydney FC worked out yesterday.

The Glory had a few fitness issues going into the home fixture against the then league leaders and Mitchell did not want to start a few of his key players because of the fitness factor.

But in the end it worked perfectly as the Glory netted twice in the second half to record a much-needed 2-0 victory after a draw and three losses in their past four.

"The first half we always expected to be difficult because of the amount of changes," Mitchell said.

"So that was always going to be tough but the game plan worked, clean sheet at half-time and we then could introduce the players when we seek fit.

"If we had of started Mile (Sterjovski) and started Victor (Sikora), then in the second half their intensity would have dropped a little bit.

"It was our intention to do what we did and luckily it paid off," he said.

The win put the Glory within two points of the top four ahead of their clash with fourth-placed Central Coast Mariners on Friday night.
