Perth Glory on trail of Philadelphia Union's Fred

Struggling A-League club Perth Glory are believed to be on the trail of Philadelphia Union midfielder Fred.

The former Melbourne Victory star is wanted on a loan deal by the ambitious Glory who are keen to bring him back to the A-League during Major League Soccer's off-season.

After his successful stint with the Victory, in which he has since been rated as the A-League's best import, Fred signed a short-term deal with the Wellington Phoenix but had to cut that move short following the death of his father in late 2008.

Since then, Fred played with DC United, the current home of former teammate Danny Allsopp, before moving onto expansion franchise Philadelphia this season.
