Perth Glory veteran Jamie Harnwell will retire from the game on the weekend.

The 33-year old has announced that Sunday's home clash with Gold Coast United will be his last for the Western Australian club.

The versatile Harnwell said it was the right time to end his playing days as his body cannot keep up with the rigors of professional football today.

"I can't describe the honour and pride I've felt while representing this club over the past 13 years," he said.

"Playing football for a living is the best job in the world, however for the past few months I haven't enjoyed myself as I should have as the years of training, travelling and sacrifices have caught up with me."

Harnwell started his career in 1998 back in the old National Soccer League and is a two-time Premiership player with the Glory, winning the 2002/03 and 2003/04 NSL Grand Finals.

He will make his 256th appearance for the Glory on Sunday at nib Stadium against Gold Coast - kick-off is at 5:00pm local time (8:00pm AEDT).
