Perth Glory owner Tony Sage has followed in the footsteps of head coach Ian Ferguson by criticising referees for making errors on a consistent basis.

The Glory were robbed of three points when Central Coast Mariners scored a controversial 87th minute goal in the 1-1 draw at nib Stadium on Sunday, infuriating Ferguson and the players.

Former Glory forward Daniel McBreen clearly fouled defender Josh Risdon in the penalty area but play went on as Mariners defender Patrick Zwaanswijk nodded home immediately after the incident.

Despite appeals from Glory players involved, referee Gerard Parsons allowed the goal to stand, and now Sage wants action against the officials.

"They need to drop the referees if they are not performing. We've dropped senior players when they are not performing. It's embarrassing for them but we have to do it," he told the west.com.au.

"The referees, because of FFA, seem to have a free pass. They don't get criticised.

"The refereeing is much worse this season than any other," Sage added. "I don't know what's happened but it has gone backwards."
