Perth Glory and Gold Coast United again the benchmark in NYL

Last season's Grand Finalists Perth Glory and Gold Coast United have stated their intent in the opening two weeks of the A-League's National Youth League.

The Glory grabbed their second win of the season with a 2-1 result away at Adelaide United thanks to a Cameron Edwards double, enabling them to jump to the top of the NYL table slightly ahead of reigning premiers Gold Coast on goal difference.

United had a brilliant 4-0 away win against Sydney FC which was highlighted by a Chris Broadfoot hat-trick whilst the Newcastle Jets joined both Perth and Gold Coast on two wins when they held off a resurgent Melbourne Victory 3-2.

Jon Griffiths netted again for the Jets who skipped to a two-goal lead when Victory goalkeeper Sebastian Mattei made a blunder with the gloves causing an own-goal before his side levelled through Geoff Kellaway and James Kalafatidis before half-time. However, Gavin Forbes came up with a winner in the 45th minute to send the Jets to third.

The other match in the youth competition for week two also brought about a result with Brisbane Roar edging the Australian Institute of Sport 3-2.
