Perez eyeing strong FA Cup run with Newcastle as trophy drought rolls on

Ayoze Perez has stated that Newcastle United will go all out to win the FA Cup this season despite their league struggles.

With the threat of relegation looming large, Newcastle are expected to view the weekend FA Cup encounter against Watford as an unwanted distraction.

However, striker Perez does not think the FA Cup is any less important than the league and has stated that the Magpies will be looking to put up a good showing in the competition having not claimed any major honours since winning the 1955 cup.

Perez said: "The fans need something more from us in those competitions. We want to fight for the FA Cup, and try to get as far as we can.

"Part of being a player at this club is knowing how long they have not won a trophy. We have not even got past the fourth round much in recent seasons, and that is a tradition we have to change. We have to look after the FA Cup this season.

"Every competition, we have to fight for it. It's 61 years in May since Newcastle last won it, such a long time ago. We have a chance."
