Perch: I was always staying with Newcastle

James Perch is happy at Newcastle United.

The defender turned down the chance to leave on-loan last month.

“I don’t know why you would want to leave here," Perch told the Evening Chronicle. “You would me mad to leave a team that looks like it’s really going somewhere with the best fans in the country behind you.

“Why would you want to go somewhere on loan?

“We saw it with Besty not wanting to go to Celtic – and I don’t see why he would. He’s playing at Newcastle in a good team.

“It’s exciting times at the moment here.”
