Per Mertesacker is fighting for his future at Arsenal.

The Times says Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will monitor Mertesacker's form and fitness in the next two months before deciding whether or not he's worthy of a new deal.

Wenger has preferred to start Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel in the heart of defence as of late.

Mertesacker is entering the final 12 months of his deal.
