Manuel Pellegrini is ready to back Andy Carroll at West Ham.
The Sun says the targetman will get a fresh start after a season dogged by injury and controversy — and the chance to earn an extension to his £100,000-a-week contract, which has just 12 months to run.
Carroll's Hammers future appeared doomed under former manager David Moyes following his temper tantrum against Manchester City when he failed to get on as a sub.
He also missed a large chunk of the season with an ankle injury and criticised West Ham fans for leaving home games early.
But a club insider said: “Andy will be assessed when the new man comes in and then a view will be taken."
Ex-City chief Pellegrini, 64, is in London finalising a three-year deal to become West Ham's sixth boss in eight years.
