Pellegrini urges Man City to take next step in Champions League

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has urged his players to take the next step in the Champions League by winning their group.

City have already qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament but they can claim the top spot in Group B by beating Juventus in Turin on Wednesday which would suggest to Pellegrini that they are finally coming of age in Europe.

"Everyone criticised this club so much for their performance in Europe and it was important to have important achievements," said the Chilean.

"One of those was to qualify for the round of 16 the last two years. Before that we couldn't do it. Now we've played in the round of 16. We were very unlucky to play against Barcelona but we have beaten Bayern Munich twice.

"This year it was important to qualify. We have two spare games to win the group. It is one step more in Europe. It is also important to win the group away to Juventus for the future because it's a big test in the Champions League. But the most important thing is to qualify already for the next stage."
