Manchester City have to get better on the European stage according to Manuel Pellegrini.
City lost 1-0 to Barcelona at Camp Nou on Wednesday night to crash out of the Champions League 3-1 on aggregate at the Round of 16 phase.
It was the fourth failure in Europe's top competition for City after falling to Barcelona in the same round last season, following their inability to progress from the group stage the previous two campaigns, which Pellegrini has noted.
"I think that we need to improve if we want to be successful in Europe," he said after the Camp Nou defeat.
"I also think that this was not really our best year in Europe, remember we have restrictions on what players and how much we can spend.
"But I think maybe if we did not play against Barcelona we would continue.
"I think in the last two years we have improved, but we were very unlucky in both years that we have played against Barcelona."
