Pellegrini sees Man City reach Champions League target

After a 5-2 demolition of CSKA Moscow, boss Manuel Pellegrini was understandably delighted that Manchester City had progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League with two group games remaining. "I'm very happy we have progressed, it has not been easy, it has been two years but we are now in the last 16 with two games remaining and that is important for the club, the players and fans.

"Our target this season was always to get through to the next round and we have done this, but it is not really relief more we have succeeded in our target.

"I always want to score goals but at least one of the CSKA goals was very easy for them. They didn't have too many chances but scored two goals. Today we conceded soft goals again.

"The most important thing was that we can play the last two games of the group and try to come top. Then we can see in February who we get and anything can happen in the knockout stage."
