Pellegrini: Qualifying from group will be great Man City achievement

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini knows how important progress out of their Champions League group is.

After City's failures in the group stages in each of the past two seasons, progress this time is a minimum expectation and Pellegrini was appointed in the summer with his European record in mind.

The 60-year-old has taken Villarreal to the semi-finals and Malaga to the last eight of the competition in the past.

He said: "For Manchester City it would be a really great achievement.

"We all know what happened the last two years - they couldn't get to the round of 16.

"For a club that is trying to grow every day, to go to the next round is very important."
