Pellegrini plays down possible Man City exits of Toure, Milner

Manuel Pellegrini has played down suggestions that Manchester City could be losing Yaya Toure and James Milner this summer.

The Chilean started Sunday's clash with Southampton at the Etihad Stadium with three midfielders who may not be at the club next season, including Frank Lampard, who leaves for MLS club New York City FC.

The other pair - Toure and Milner - have been heavily linked with summer exits from the Etihad Stadium but Pellegrini highlighted the fact that neither of them said goodbye to the City fans suggesting they could stay.

"I think the only player that said goodbye was Frank Lampard," he said after the 2-0 win in which Lampard and Sergio Aguero scored.

"Yaya returned in the last game after an injury of 15 days - he finished very tired and he couldn't finish the last game either. I didn't want him to have some muscle injuries and that is why I changed him.

"Milner had an important kick in his knee, that is why he couldn't finish the game.

"We will see, not only for those two names, who will stay here or not. That was not the reason why they were changed."

Of Milner, who is out of contract this summer, Pellegrini added: "James said he was taking the decision at the end of the season.

"He is a very important player and he gave us a lot of spirit in this year but he must decide what is better for him."

32-year old Ivorian midfielder Toure is a strong target for Inter Milan while Milner, 29, has been linked with a number of City's Premier League rivals including Arsenal and Liverpool.
