Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was delighted with their comprehensive win over Southampton.
Pellegrini was pleased with the character his side portrayed at St Mary's and hopes their recent run of form will continue.
"I am very pleased because we beat a very good team," he reflected. "They were second in the table and they deserved that position because they play very well.
"We beat them playing a very good game - not only in defending, though it was important to have a clean sheet again.
"They had just one chance in the 90 minutes and it's important for the trust of our team. To score three goals against the best defence in the Premier League is also very important and I think we had at least four more clear chances to score.
"We are trying to return to the form of champions. I said before these last three games: we were not playing so bad - maybe we were making important mistakes and maybe we were not so accurate in finishing, but the most important thing is that we never lost the spirit of the team.
"We always try to win. Maybe we had two or three results that were not what we wanted but I am very glad to see the team playing the way they are now."
