The prospect of Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre returning to Mexico as national team boss is fading.

The Mexican FA have drawn up a £3 million-a-year contract for Aguirre to consider, however, there is a major lobby of top local clubs that want Argentine Jose Peckerman installed as Hugo Sanchez's replacement.

With Atletico's European qualification campaign back on course, Aguirre is expected to remain at the Vicente Calderon next season.
