Nigel Pearson has pulled back from talks with Aston Villa.
The former Leicester City manager is regarded as favourite for the Villa job.
But the Mirror says Pearson has stalled on taking the Villa job because of doubts over the future of Aitor Karanka at now-Premier LeagueMiddlesbrough.
The 52-year-old ended his playing career at Boro.
