Former Hull City chairman Adam Pearson is planning a bid for Derby County.
Sources close to the deal claim it has reached the due diligence stage and that a sale may go through within a week.
Pearson has also been in talks with Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday - but the Derby package is complicated.
Rams chairman Peter Gadsby ideally wants to sell the club but keep control of the ground and a major building project around Pride Park but that dream may have to be altered.
The takeover could be good news for boss Billy Davies who can expect to stay at the helm as part of the deal.
