Newcastle United defensive coach Nigel Pearson admits they must get tighter at the back.

Pearson is desperate to eradicate the errors which he feels cost United against Manchester City and told the Evening Chronicle: "It was a frustrating game - we got ourselves in front and then took our foot off the pedal.

"And it allowed them to get back in and we conceded some poor goals."

Pearson added: "We have had a reasonable start, but in the games in which we have been beaten we have created problems for ourselves which we will put right over a period of time."
