Pearce won't force Euros issue on Man City's Rodwell

England U21 coach Stuart Pearce says he won't force the issue over Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell's availability for the Euros.

England U21 coach Stuart Pearce says he won't force the issue over Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell's availability for the Euros.

Pearce has made it clear he would have no hesitation of including Rodwell in his 23-man squad if he was sure about his fitness but until the Manchester City midfielder has shown he has got over his hamstring troubles, his situation will remain unclear.

"Jack has been to two major tournaments and has some vital experience," said Pearce.

"He has been unfortunate with his injuries. He needs to make sure he gets fit and starts playing regularly again for Manchester City.

"But he is someone we will be looking at — and speaking to medical people about — before making our final judgement call. It is difficult to say whether this is the best squad I have had. But I am pleased with the way the players are playing.

"It is a good sign going into a tournament."
