England U21 coach Stuart Pearce says Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell is a great role-model for young players.

Rodwell's international development is cited as an example for all youngsters - not least Everton's latest Under-21 star Ross Barkley.

Pearce said: "For me the most important thing is that the players can see a progression. I like to think the likes of Ross Barkley can look at Jack and see that he's come through the system at Everton, played for the Under-21s for three seasons and now has his opportunity in the seniors.

"I'm sure at some stage Jack will come back to the Under-21s, but he's a great role-model for the players, not just at Everton but at other clubs as well."
