Stuart Pearce is convinced the current England squad is stronger than his 1990 team which lost a heart-breaking semi-final penalty shoot-out to West Germany at Italia '90. England Under-21s' boss Pearce feels Fabio Capello's men have as good a chance of winning the World Cup as any England side has had since 1990: "A lot depends. We think so.
"The squad is really strong, there's a great balance in the squad.
"We have got players we didn't have, maybe, in 1990 with European experience, bearing in mind we had five years of exclusion from Europe.
"We had no players who had played Champions League, European Cup or whatever - I certainly hadn't and a lot of the other players hadn't.
"But we have now. We have got the likes of John Terry, the likes of Ashley Cole - they are world-class performers to name but two, and the [Wayne] Rooneys of this world.
"They play in Europe every week against the best every week, and the best around the world also play in the Premier League, so there are no surprises there anymore for us, which there were 20 years ago."
