Giampaolo Pazzini was stunned by Sampdoria's 3-1 defeat at Champions League opponents Werder Bremen last night.
Sampdoria's hopes of the Champions League group phase were hanging by a thread until Pazzini scored a late header, meaning they must win the second leg 2-0 to qualify.
"It's better to lose 3-1 than 3-0, but it's a game in which I really don't know how we managed to concede three goals," said the striker.
"We had plenty of chances and it's a real shame, as we could've had a better result tonight.
"The important thing is that now there will be another match and 90 minutes is a long time at Marassi."
