Pavlovic eyeing permanent Newcastle Jets contract

Mirjan Pavlovic is hoping he can persuade Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina to offer him a new contract.

The 21-year old Sydney United striker was promoted from the Jets' Youth system to the seniors last term but the fact that regular first-teamers will be returning from injury may make life difficult for him.

Pavlovic hopes his form in the NSW Premier League will convince Culina to perhaps think before looking past him.

"I thought I was pretty close to getting a deal but it didn't happen," Pavlovic told the Newcastle Herald.

"I don't care too much about the wage; I just want to be there.

"It would be my first real professional contract. I'm not too worried about the money. I want to be there training every day with the boys. If it is not the Jets, I don't care where I go.

"I just want to play."

Sydney United's player-coach David Zdrilic says Pavlovic should have no problems attracting an A-League club.

"From what I have seen of him he will be playing A-League somewhere next season," said Zdrilic.

"If it is not the Jets, it will be somewhere else.

"He is doing a great job for us and there are a lot of people coming and watching our games, looking for talent.

"We play a 4-3-3, he is up front and holds the ball really well. He presses and puts pressure on defenders, which is something we have not had at Sydney United in recent seasons."
