Paul Pogba: What they said about Man Utd star (this week)

It's been a red letter week for Paul Pogba in France. After being dubbed worst on the pitch against Bulgaria, the Manchester United midfielder proved the matchwinner against Holland. In his homeland, they've all had their say: Pundits, coaches, teammates, friends and family.

Here's just some of what has been said about United's €100 million man:

DIDIER DESCHAMPS (France coach): “I do not like to judge a player individually. But he has alternated from good and less good. Paul is able. He can and must do better. He knows this.

“He does good things, some not so good. He is capable of much more."

PAVEL NEDVED (Juventus director): "I went with him to dinner and told him what he should do differently, how he should train. I told him 'play simple and you will be king. Do more, work more. And if you only get one Ballon d'Or, it will be a failure.

“He's a boy who wants to be the best."

DIMITRI PAYET (West Ham): "There's a lot of waiting around [in possession] and it does not favour him because he is very attacking. It's hard what he does because he has to stay calm and a game like tonight shows he is worthy of [being] great."

MOUSSA SISSOKO (Tottenham): "Paul is still the big issue, the big debate.

"He's good, he feels good in the group. We trust him. Today, he had a very good game, he had a chance to score. It's good for him and for us, for his confidence. Everything is positive."

DANIEL RIOLO (Pundit): "Pogba wasn't the star for Les Bleus? As usual. He was nonchalant.

"Nonchalant! Ah, but he's not playing in his position, that's right ... We must only select the team after asking him where he wants to play and who will replace him ..."

TATITH CHONG (Man Utd U18): "(Paul) Pogba said to me: 'you're an outside-left? I have seen a number of games of yours'."

GIGI BUFFON (Juventus): “Seasons are long and we are only in the second month out of 11. I smile when I hear people say in September that Pogba is not good enough. We can only take stock at the end of the campaign.

“It's like with horses in a race, it doesn't matter who is leading halfway round, but who gets past the finish line first."

DANIEL RIOLO (again): "How dare you criticise this football star? Disbelievers who doubt the talent. Pogba scored. Hits the target, a super goal, more happiness for Les Bleus.

"Neymar, Suarez, Messi, Ronaldo rejoice when they score. But Pogba is above that. He does not play 'with', 'for', he plays 'against'.

"Against those who dare to talk about him. You're a follower of the star, you're in his yard, or it is nothing. Hard to be loved by the greatest number with such an attitude, but he does not care."
