Patrick van Aanholt: Took me one second to accept Sunderland offer

Patrick van Aanholt is delighted with his move to Sunderland.

The former Chelsea left-back has signed permanently for the Black Cats.

He told SAFSee: "Sunderland is a great club and it is a great opportunity for me to play in the Barclays Premier League.

"I spoke with the head coach on the phone and he said he would be very happy to bring me to Sunderland, I thought about it for one second and immediately knew that I would love to come here."

After narrowly missing out on a place in the Netherlands' 2014 World Cup squad, the 23-year-old cannot wait to get started, and he is looking to make an immediate impact during the club's pre-season tour of Portugal.

"I have played for Holland before and I was unlucky not to be selected for the World Cup after being named in the provisional squad.

"I was a little disappointed but I already have experience of playing in front of big crowds so I cannot wait to get started."

He continued: "I think the Portugal trip will be very important for me as I will get to know the players, the staff and everything else around it.

"I am very happy that the head coach wants to play attacking football as it is the way I like to play."
