After a torrid start to life in the A-League, the North Queensland Fury are finally beginning to get the results they want.

Ian Ferguson's men were seemingly down and out after just three matches in the competition which saw them clinging to the bottom of the league table but the coach knew that he would have to remain patient with a group of players that had come together just months earlier.

The former Rangers midfielder didn't panic and persisted with his players who have come through with shining colours in recent weeks.

With two wins and three draws from their last five matches, culminating in Saturday's 2-0 away win over derby rivals Gold Coast United, the determined Fury outfit have climbed from bottom of the table to 7th and are sitting just one point outside the top six.

Ferguson said he always had confidence in his team and knew things would turn eventually.

''I don't think our confidence has ever wavered, the boys have always been good, always kept upbeat and we've always tried to keep them light-hearted,'' he said.

''Even with the defeats we've always kept to our principles and we've believed in ourselves.

''We're a brand new franchise ... we've always said we'll be competitive and I think we are.

''I've always thought this team could be very competitive and we're starting to show one or two teams what we can do.''

The Fury have a great opportunity to continue their advance up the table when they take on the bottom-placed Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia this Sunday, November 8.
