Patience the key for Brisbane's Oar

Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou knows he has to remain patient whilst nurturing the talents of young left-back Tommy Oar.

The 18-year old is likely to get a call-up to the Australia squad for the Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait next month but his club coach says it is important to continue working hard with his player so he can keep developing.

"He knows where he's at as a footballer. He knows that he's still got a long way to go and still got to work hard," he said.

"He's super positive. We're just going to keep working with him.

"The key for us is to keep playing him. With young players you've just got to give them the opportunity to keep playing regularly."

Postecoglou added that he wasn't sure if Oar understands that he is so close to a national team call-up.

"I don't think he knows," he added.

"He just walks around with a smile on his face. I'm not sure it's registering."
