Patafta needs to improve - van Egmond

Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond has said that potential is not enough to get by for youngster Kaz Patafta. The 20-year old has been a 'spruik' player whilst in Australia after crossing over from Portuguese giants Benfica but has failed to deliver on his enormous potential.

A poor showing with the Melbourne Victory led him to Newcastle where he has struggled yet again to win a regular first team spot and van Egmond wants more from the attacking midfielder.

"He has not been good enough it is as simple as that," van Egmond said.

"At training he has to show us what he can do. That is the most important thing. Until that happens it is going to be very difficult to play him.

"He knows exactly where he sits.

"It is more the actual mentality he has of winning things and his defensive capabilities.

"He knows he has to get better in those areas."
