Paston calm about having competition at Wellington Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Mark Paston is not too worried about having some strong competition at the club.

The New Zealand international has been joined by former Central Coast Mariners stopper Danny Vukovic and ex-Brisbane Roar gloveman Griffin McMaster in the past week as the Phoenix went about strengthening their keeping stocks following the injury to Reece Crowther.

Paston is aware of the talent of both Vukovic and McMaster (signed as an injury replacement) but believes having some strong competition is healthy.

"It's a good signing for the club," Paston said yesterday. "Danny has proven himself to be a top goalkeeper and it's going to be a good scrap for the No1 spot.

"I've had competition with Mossy [Glen Moss] in the national team and I've always said that selection is up to the coaching staff. My job is to go out, train well and play well.

"There will be plenty of competition and I enjoy that, so as soon as form drops or someone gets injured, there will be someone to step in."
