Promising goalkeeper Justin Pasfield has emerged as a shock candidate to take the captaincy at North Queensland Fury.
The 25-year old stopper has been touted as a possible replacement for Robbie Fowler who has left the club for the Perth Glory.
New fury coach Franz Straka said that Pasfield, along with a few other names, were in line to lead the Townsville outfit for the 2010/11 season.
"I will decide in two or three weeks who will be the captain of the team. It is important that we have some leaders in the group and hopefully we do well," Straka told the Townsville Bulletin.
"We have three or four players ... maybe Justin Pasfield as well, he has a quality and leads the young boys."
Brand new recruit Eric Akoto, who is also in the running, said he would love to again act as captain after leading the Togo national team.
"For me it would be no problem because I have been captain of Togo for a long time," the 29-year old said.
"If the Fury give it to me I will appreciate it and I will show my qualities as a captain."
