Scott Parker admits he joined Tottenham to strengthen his case for a place in England's midfield.

The tough-tackling midfielder, 30, switched from relegated West Ham United for £5million on transfer deadline day.

He said: "Playing for Tottenham will boost my England prospects.

"No disrespect to the players I had been working with at West Ham, but the players at Spurs are very, very good quality and obviously it makes life easier for me.

"When you are working with people of a higher calibre it makes you raise your game.

"I'm learning from these players as well."
