Newcastle United's resurgence is even inspiring the backing of the politicians.

Alan Pardew has seen his New Newcastle earn the backing of New Labour - with praise coming his way from ex-PM Tony Blair, himself a United fan.

Blair said: "I saw the game against Tottenham and thought they were fantastic. I thought they showed real spirit after coming back, particularly from 2-1 down.

"They played for each other and Alan Pardew has done amazingly well, considering where we were."
