Pardew urges England to consider recall for Palace winger Townsend

Alan Pardew has again backed Andros Townsend to earn an England recall, reports the London Evening Standard.

Pardew believes the 25 year old deserves a call-up for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia. "I think he has got to be a consideration for Sam and England because he is natural wide player and scores goals from the wide areas," he said.

"It is very difficult to play with two strikers in the modern era, you need to control that midfield. So wide players scoring goals is a massive asset and that is what he can do. He has already got England experience.

"Really and truly he never had the run of games he perhaps deserved at Spurs, but the competition there is fierce so I can understand that. He has got much more of a chance here.

"I said to him I will show much more faith in him, as long as he does his defensive duties and does his work for the team. Offensively we know he is going to deliver at certain times because he has that quality."
