Pardew thanks Newcastle fans for never quitting on them against Arsenal

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew thanked Toon fans for "staying with us" after their amazing comeback against Arsenal.

Pardew revealed how he ignored thoughts of shutting up shop and performing damage limitation at halftime of the 4-4 thriller.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "It was an unbelievable day, and I thank the fans for staying with us, and most importantly I thank the players for their character and a performance that showed they were lions out there.

"We made a call at half-time.

"You either sit there and protect the four, and don't get embarrassed, or you say 'you know what, we're going to play the game properly and see what happens'.

"We said 'let's put them under pressure and kicked down the end we like kicking, and let's go and show what we're about'.

"And my God, we did that, and more. It feels like a 4-0 victory, and a special, special day, yet we haven't won."
