Pardew to show patience with Newcastle signing Amalfitano

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew says new free transfer signing Romain Amalfitano will be given time to settle at St James' Park before being introduced to the first team. The 22-year-old midfielder arrived on Tyneside on a free transfer from French Ligue 2 winners Stade de Reims last week.

Pardew told Chronicle Live: "Romain's a player who has been off the radar for a while, so it's going to take him some time to get back to his very, very best.

"However, he is coming into a great environment and I'm sure he'll settle very quickly. That's the beauty of the French market."

Pardew added: "He plays across the midfield, a bit like Sylvain Marveaux."
