Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has a striking headache ahead of Saturday's clash with Blackburn Rovers. With Andy Carroll's departure and the loss of Shola Ameobi to a broken cheekbone, Pardew has seen his attacking options reduced to Nile Ranger and Leon Best, who are both expected to recover from knocks in time to travel to Ewood Park.
Pardew has revealed he may bring in someone later this week.
The Toon boss told the Journal: "Both Nile and Leon are due to train again on Thursday without any problems and that is obviously a bonus for us as we are short.
"We are still looking to see if we can sign somebody to beef us up a bit in that area. If all goes well, we could even have somebody in by the time we play Blackburn at the weekend and, failing that, for the trip to Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
"There aren't many to choose from on the free-agent list as you can imagine, but we have done the necessary research and now we are about to make a decision on whether we are going to do something."
