Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew isn't surprised by James Perch's impact.

The former Nottingham Forest defender appeared on his way out of the club before Christmas, but he was outstanding against Liverpool yesterday.

"It is not a surprise with James," said Pardew. "He has that professionalism to do the best he can do."
