Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew insists the club will be a lot smarter when they step into the summer transfer market this year.
The Magpies have been known to make some failed purchases in recent times but Pardew has made it clear that this time around they will not hurry into signing up players who have the ability to flop after pocketing a nice salary.
"Everybody is looking to see what we are going to do and we are trying to make sure that we cover all the bases before we make our move," he said.
"We don't want to make a mistake - there have been mistakes made here in selection and on finance, so it's very important to get those (decisions) right."
Pardew said that scoring goals was something the Magpies needed more of and that was an area he would target this off-season.
"We haven't scored a lot of goals away from home, for example - in fact, I think we have got the worst (total) in the division, so we need to make sure that improves," he added.
"Like any manager, I am starting to review now and we have got to make sure next year we are stronger in all departments."
